The town itself is lively without being overwhelming — great restaurants, bars, a harbour, weekly markets, and excellent watersports including kitesurfing, windsurfing, surfing, and diving. Ferries to Lanzarote leave from here daily.
Best for: Families, couples, watersports enthusiasts, anyone who wants the best beaches and a bit of nightlife.
El Cotillo (Northwest)
About 20 minutes west of Corralejo, El Cotillo is a small fishing village with a gorgeous lagoon beach — sheltered, calm water, and far quieter than Corralejo. Great for young children who need safe swimming. The village has a handful of good restaurants and a very relaxed feel.
Best for: Couples and young families wanting peace and quiet.
Costa Calma & Jandia (South)
The south of Fuerteventura is home to the long Sotavento beach — legendary among windsurfers and kitesurfers. Costa Calma and the Jandia peninsula are more resort-like than the north, with larger hotel complexes alongside villas. The beaches are excellent and the water is generally calmer than the north.

- Stock up at Mercadona — the local supermarket chain has everything you need at reasonable prices; there's one in Corralejo town

- Sun protection — the UV index in Fuerteventura is high even on cloudy days; factor 50 is recommended especially for children
